For Believe UK, DISCO Is “Part Of The Solution” For Tackling More Sync Opportunities

--

Pete Beck, Global Head of Sync, Believe Music

Believe UK is a full-service music distributor based in London with a focus on independent artists.

Pete Beck, the Global Head of Sync, spoke with DISCO in London about how he was “handed a laptop with an iTunes library, and that was the sync database.” Nearly a decade later, brands have become much more targeted with their audiences, and “there are more licensing and sync opportunities than ever before,” but most music groups haven’t grown in terms of staffing. That’s where DISCO steps in. “You need to be able to use tech to facilitate as much as possible,” Pete says.

Watch Pete’s full interview with DISCO below, where the head of sync talks about using DISCO to gain a better understanding into sync and licensing trends and collaborate across departments, and how tech can better facilitate catalog discovery and faster licensing.

Collaborating Across Departments

Believe UK operates with DISCO across multiple departments, including A&R and marketing, who frequently sit down for meetings to compare notes and DISCO playlists. “People are going, ‘Hey, I found this record from 20 years ago, but I think it works for this brief.’”

In other cases, Believe’s UK hub can easily communicate with departments across time zones “just by virtue of being able to see what everybody else is pitching.”

Tracking Industry Trends

Believe also uses DISCO to gain transparency into sync and licensing trends by tracking search terms and tracks that go from being pitched to licensed. “We can see trends in the industry and we can see what we might have in the wider Believe catalog we can then pull into DISCO… We have a pretty tight roster of sync [tracks] we want to work with, and DISCO is the facilitator of all that.”

“Tech Is The Solution”

When deadlines get tight, DISCO offers an expedited process for track discovery and licensing. “Catalog discovery and facilitating quicker licensing are the two areas where tech is the solution. We as a sync industry need to get more on board with that. One human can never listen to an entire catalog, so leaning into tech and things like MultiDISCO Search and AI Tagging feel like part of the solution to me. That’s been a big win for us with using DISCO.”
