DISCO is home to thousands of independent artists from around the world, as well as the leading platform for music supervisors.

Through our new Opportunities tab, approved artists can now submit for a range of opportunities on the platform. One of those opportunities is inclusion in our new Fresh Spins playlist, a regularly updated sampler of highlights from sync-ready independent DISCO artists that’s showcased in all supervisor DISCO accounts.

Here’s a peek at a handful of tracks in the latest Fresh Spins edition.

“I was watching a movie one night and honestly, I can’t even remember the name of the movie! It was something from the ‘70s and had a great R&B soundtrack,” says Michael Chrysanthou, an LA-based composer who performs as MCUK.

“I heard a little chord progression that stuck with me for the rest of the movie. I had to go straight to the piano and try to write something similar. I ended up with what is now the main progression, but for the next couple of weeks I went back and forth with the BPM. Should it be more electronic or something with more of a live feel? I honestly hit a little bit of a brick wall.

That’s when Shahana came to the rescue! She heard the chord progression and sang the hook almost instantly! As soon as she put that down, it really set off the creative juices and I decided to slow down the BPM and really try to do something a little more abstract. We wrote verses and it came together from there.

We really just wanted to have fun and do something a little different. Shahana has such a great voice and we never felt like we had to have any typically big moments, we just wanted to follow the vibe we stumbled into and see where it landed! We were really happy with the end result and that’s the most we could have hoped for.”

Speaking to DISCO about the swirling, rhythmic electro-pop of “Sweet Sabotage,” London-based singer-songwriter Lucy Warr says: “‘Sweet Sabotage’ is a soulful reflection born from my time in Bali, where I discovered that despite the idyllic, picturesque external surroundings, my inner world remained unchanged.”

She adds: “This introspective composition delves into the complexities of the human experience, urging listeners to embrace vulnerability as a catalyst for healing and growth. Through candid expression, the song aims to forge connections and shed light on shared struggles, challenging the notion of surface appearances and advocating for empathy and understanding. Befriending our saboteur, as explored within the song, emerges as the key to unlocking deeper levels of self-awareness and personal insight.”

“I wrote ‘Spring’ in 2022 as part of a final project for college; it was the first time I really pushed myself to write, produce, and engineer something that I was genuinely happy with,” London-based artist Rebecca Whitford of miufly tells DISCO about the bright and chiming “Spring”.

“It also let me lyrically reflect on a past relationship that was very significant to me and that I wanted to completely put behind me, dealing more broadly with themes like self-empowerment and growth/overcoming doubt. I hope listeners can enjoy the lighthearted production while also relating to the heavier lyrical material, and that it leaves everyone feeling optimistic at the end.”

“Always Good” was made as part of LA-based production team The Park’s weekly “Fridays At The Park” recording series. Every Friday, a new guest artist joins The Park for coffee, food, conversation, and to write and record a song from scratch. On “Always Good,” TOBi’s smooth style of unapologetic soul music was the perfect match for the hypnotic groove of The Park.
