Meet Alison Moses and Kayla Monetta: They form the dynamic music supervision duo MOMO.FM. Launched last year amid the Hollywood strikes, Moses and Monetta became fast friends after mutual contacts urged them to get in touch with one another. Upon meeting up, the pair immediately bonded over a shared love of music discovery and the indie tunes they loved as teenagers.

“We made mixes for each other’s radio shows and have loved sharing music with one another over the years,” Moses and Monetta tell DISCO. “After working for other people for over a decade, and talking about how we wanted to start our own company for years, we figured it was time! We are so excited to finally combine forces and take over the world.”

Based in Los Angeles and New York, MOMO.FM is a young enterprise but it has already made a splash; in the last year, Monetta and Moses jointly supervised the Diablo Cody-produced film I Love You Forever starring Cazzie David, which is set to premiere at SXSW in March.

For volume 3 of our Let The Music Play Series (see Vol 1 and Vol 2), Moses and Monetta have specially curated a MOMO.FM playlist using only tracks found via DISCO catalogs. It features a diverse mix of tracks, from the vintage pop revivalism of Connie Cunningham and the Creeps’ “Going, Going, Going, Gone” to a haunting cover of Stan Jones’ “(Ghost) Riders in the Sky: A Cowboy Legend” by The Space Lady.

They also list Basil Kirchin’s “Silicon Chip” (“always a favorite when played at either of our DJ sets”) and “Roxy” by Sandro Brugnolini from Sonor Music Editions’ New Tape collection.

We hope you enjoy their picks — let us know if you want to curate the next LTMP!

Connie Cunningham and the Creeps — “Going, Going, Going, Gone” (Earth Libraries)

We LOVE the work Earth Libraries is doing — whether they’re putting out vintage gems, new artists, or, as in the case of Connie Cunningham, new artists that sound old, warm, and familiar.

Mystery Plane — “Graveyard in the Sky” (Now Again)

We’re longtime fans of the Now Again catalog, and we recently stumbled upon their “Best Of Vintage Electronic” playlist, which has a ton of gems, including this track from Mystery Plane off their album Still Life. The whole album rules. Highly recommend!

Hayedeh — “Tanha Ba Golha” (Caltex)

We discovered an endless trove of incredible Persian vintage tracks in Caltex’s catalog! It was hard to pick just one from this library, but we absolutely love the choir, operatic voices, and dramatic, orchestral production on “Tanha Ba Golha.”

Sandro Brugnolini — “Roxy” (New Tape Collection)

The New Tape collection from Sonor Music Editions has a ton of amazing vintage Italian soundtracks. Kayla has now been running on about a two-year long Sandro Brugnolini kick in which she listens to the entirety of Gungala la Panera Nada probably once a week.

Torba — “Papers” (Low Profile)

We have both worked frequently with Jen Pearce over the years, and we love the artist-friendly and transparent ethos she brings to her company Low Profile. We consider her taste and Low Profile’s indie up-and-comers to be some of the best discoveries in the biz. We found this artist on their latest sampler on their DISCO page. It made us want to listen to the whole album!

Lily Chao — “Tea Plucking and Catching Butterflies” (MAPS Music)
We love the MAPS catalog because of how well it runs the gamut of eras, genres, and styles. This Lily Chao track is a bop that’s been on a handful of our personal playlists over the years.

The Space Lady — “Ghost Riders in the Sky” (MAPS Music)

Yet another from MAPS. We knew we’d keep stumbling across unique and captivating stuff in their catalog, and who doesn’t love a cover? This icy cover of “Ghost Riders” by artist The Space Lady does not disappoint.

Basil Kirchin — “Silicon Chip” (Woodwork Music)

What more is there to say? WE LOVE BASIL KIRCHIN! This track is always a favorite when played at either of our DJ sets.

abracadabra — “at the zoo” (Woodwork Music)
We haven’t worked with Woodwork Music in the past, so we were thrilled to find playlist upon playlist of amazing music. We love the chaotic production of this track against the singer’s sweet and grounding vocals!

Kourosh Yaghmaei — “Gole Yakh” (Now Again)
Another favorite from Now Again. We love this entire record from Kourosh Yaghmaei: Back From The Brink: Pre Revolution Psychedelic Rock From Iran: 1973–1979.

The Medium — “Good Ol’ Days” Rollo Grady

We are big fans of Rollo Grady for putting out the music supervisors’ year-end lists each December, so we wanted to dig around in their catalog to see what we could find. We were drawn to each other by our shared sense of humor, and there is just something adorable and funny about this track! There’s a hopeless hopefulness that gives the song a specific attitude and feel. We are obsessed!

Them Are Us Too — “Eudaemonia” (Dais Records)

This band is one of our forever favorites. We’re big fans of Dais Records and champion just about everything they put out these days. When adding this track to our playlist, we realized that this EP came out in 2015, which made us feel old. Kayla is almost positive that she put this song on her Tumblr.

Music Supervisors, you can access MOMO.FM’s playlist in the Discover Music section of your DISCO account.
